Creating a Nature-Inspired Anniversary Experience in Shanghai

To celebrate the fifth anniversary of JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Shanghai Pudong, we developed Wings of Nature — a creative concept inspired by transformation, beauty and the enriching experiences that define the world of JW Marriott.

Created for an intimate gathering of VIP guests, KOLs and media in Shanghai, the celebration brought the concept to life through event design, floral styling, visual content, AV production and live entertainment, creating an elegant experience that reflected both the significance of the milestone and the character of the hotel.

Finding a Symbol for Five Years of Growth

The butterfly became the central symbol of the anniversary — representing transformation, freedom, beauty and the beginning of new journeys.

Much like a butterfly moves through different stages before taking flight, the concept reflected the hotel's own five-year journey and the experiences shared with its guests along the way.

Its lightness, movement and natural elegance also gave us a visual language for the event. Rather than approaching the anniversary as a traditional corporate celebration, we created a world inspired by nature, where organic forms, delicate details and the imagery of butterfly wings could become part of the overall experience.

From a Creative Idea to a Complete Event Environment

The visual world of Wings of Nature extended across the event space, connecting décor, florals, lighting and digital content through one cohesive creative direction.

Nature-inspired forms and butterfly elements were balanced with refined floral compositions and atmospheric lighting, while AV and visual content helped carry the concept into the surrounding environment.

Every element was developed within JW Marriott's brand guidelines, allowing the anniversary theme to feel expressive and distinctive while remaining connected to the sophisticated identity of the hotel.

One Story Across Every Part of the Celebration

Beyond the visual environment, we approached the anniversary as a complete guest journey.

From arrival through the main programme, entertainment and anniversary moments, the event rundown was developed to create a natural flow throughout the celebration. Live entertainment and visual content became part of the storytelling rather than separate programme elements, helping the experience evolve throughout the event.

With an intimate guest list of VIPs, KOLs and media, attention to timing, atmosphere and detail was particularly important — allowing each part of the celebration to feel considered without losing its sense of ease.
